I Was Running

Later this week, on December 20th, I will surpass the three month mark since I had the surgery. I cannot believe it has been that long! I have been feeling real good. The vegan-like lifestyle is going well. I have been getting tons of support from family and friends, particularly from Vanessa, as she is doing most of the grocery shopping and cooking. I'd say about 95% of my caloric intake is vegan.
I have been at cardiac rehab for 6 weeks and it has been very helpful. One of my goals when I first started was to get back to running. They informed me that I would not be allowed to run until 12 weeks following the surgery. So for the first month of rehab I went at it as hard as I could in preparation for running. I am very pleased to say that last week I ran for the first time in nearly five months. I'm starting with some walk/run intervals and building up to constant run, but it felt great to run at all, even on a treadmill.
Last weekend Vanessa, the kids and I went to Brooklyn to celebrate my nephew's birthday and to have an early Christmas celebration with my parents and sister. It was such a great weekend! Definitely not entirely vegan or heart healthy, but it was Christmas after all!

We had a blast exploring Christmas windows at stores, FAO Schwartz, Rockefeller Center, Central Park. We ate some awesome food, drank some great wine, and enjoyed each others company for a great birthday/holiday celebration! Selfishly, one of my highlights was my first outdoor run. It was nearly 50 degrees, so it was perfect running weather. It felt great to be out there and running along the Easy River looking at the NYC skyline is always incredible. It wasn't pretty. It wasn't long. It wasn't fast, but it sure got me excited about things to come. Merry Christmas! Happy holidays! Happy New Year! 2019 is going to be epic!
